Within the E&P domain, there are literally tens of thousands of data types. Needless to say, getting all interested parties together to decide on data types, naming conventions, formats, and then document it all, is tedious and time-consuming. Many people think it cannot be done or is not worth the time to do. But, with the collaboration of Energistics members, it is being done and the value is being realized.
Wide scale adoption can only start when vendor technology is capable of supporting standards-based interfaces and schema specifications.
Stability of standards is crucial for adoption by vendors.
