PRODML SIG to Begin Addressing Production Service Company Data Acquisition

18 Feb 09

Participation requested from energy and service companies.

The PRODML Special Interest Group's Use Case and Marketing Team has prepared a proposal to bring service company data acquisition into the scope of the PRODML Standards. As a result, the Team is soliciting interested parties from energy and service companies to join a new sub-team that will identify, prioritize, and describe requirements for the receipt of service company production-related data in a PRODML form.

The types of production service company acquisition data to be considered cover service company field activity reports and engineering design reports contractually provided to energy companies. These are illustrated by the following examples:

  • flowing and static pressure survey reports
  • chemical treatment service reports
  • artificial lift design reports
  • PVT and gas analysis reports

The Team believes that there is substantial value in applying the PRODML Standards to the point of origin of these types of data and then to transfer the data using PRODML Standards as its flows through analytical, storage, and reporting software components.

  • Energy companies will benefit from improved data quality and reduced need to re-enter data.
  • Service companies will gain insight into current and future customer requirements and will improve their ability to respond quickly to the customer requirements.

The basis for this concept is summarized in a short document. Anyone considering participation in this effort is asked to write to Energistics to learn how you can participate. Please respond no later than March 11th to ensure that you will be included in this activity from the outset.

  • Energy company users of service company supplied production data will help identify, prioritize, and describe specific kinds of data to be supported by PRODML Standards.
  • Service company provides of production data will help describe types of data being supplied and will assist in scoping out practical ways and means for these types of data to be adapted or migrated to the form of PRODML defined XML data files.

There is a somewhat parallel activity addressing drilling and completion services reports that is taking place in the WITSML Special Interest Group. Recognizing that some services normally performed for Drilling and Completion departments may be performed for Production departments, e.g. services associated with re-completions, and vice-versa, data objects from both activities will be available for use in both WITSML-based work flows and PRODML-based work flows.
