q4 2011
The activities of the Metadata Work Group focused on reviewing and responding to energy industry comments on the Release Candidate Version 1.0 distributed in Q3 2011.
q3 2011
The Energy Industry Profile (EIP) was released for community comment. The activities of the Metadata Work Group focused on finalizing the release candidate document and review materials.
Q2 2011
The primary activities of the Metadata Work Group were to revise the draft profile specification in order to align with recent and continuing changes from the ISO 19115-1 revision process. The work group was represented at the ISO working meeting in May.
Q1 2011
The Metadata Work Group conducted a workshop for interested participants at the 2011 Esri Petroleum User Group (PUG) meeting in February. The workshop covered both ISO 19115 and its revision process as well as the development of the Energy Industry Profile (EIP) v1.0.
The schedule for release of EIP v1.0 was adjusted to the second half of 2011 to permit better alignment with the revision of the base standards, ISO 19115-1, now in progress.
Q4 2010
A working draft of the new ISO 19115 revision was released. The Metadata Work Group submitted comments for consideration in November.
Q3 2010
The work group reviewed and compiled input from project participants, summarizing required metadata content elements into a consolidated format. After reviewing a variety of profile formats used by other standards organizations, a decision was made to use a format similar to the INSPIRE guidelines. This includes a table summarizing profile requirements for all elements that vary from the base standard and a guidelines section summarizing all required elements, including those from the base standard.
The group also decided to release a first draft that will cover key components of the metadata standard (base metadata, resource identification and distribution information), but not the entire standard. The profile will target the new version of ISO 19115 but will include provisions for using the current (2006) version.
Q2 2010
Work group members analyzed suggested changes to the base ISO 19115 standard, and in mid-2010, provided comments back to the ISO standards committee. The goal is to affect ISO-based standard changes based on requirements from energy industry participants.
Q1 2010
In early 2010, the work group completed stage 2 of the Energistics Standards Life Cycle and compiled requirements for an Energy Industry Profile (EIP). A Request for Comment (RFC) was distributed to active participants and results were compiled as part of the formal requirements gathering process. These requirements served as input to the EIP standard development. The RFC included materials requesting comments in one of two methods:
- Method 1: Two-part questionnaire and instructions. The questionnaire required no familiarity with the ISO standards on which the EIP will be based. The instructions included an overview of the initiative.
- Method 2: Detailed feedback documentation (ZIP) including a spreadsheet that contained a compilation of attributes from the base ISO standards, and for each attribute, the opportunity to identify the obligation level and any recommendation for the domain values needed to enable efficient discovery and evaluation of and access to diverse information resources.
