Energistics provides the global upstream oil and gas industry with an open consortium to define, develop and maintain data standards. Energistics is dedicated to informing, educating and supporting all stakeholders to ensure a rapid and effective adoption of the standards in the pursuit of interoperability, efficiency and data integrity.
Ross Philo – President & CEO
As President and CEO, Ross Philo provides the leadership for Energistics to achieve its vision and mission for the development and adoption of the data exchange standards for the oil and gas industry.
Responsibilities include strategic planning, operations and financial management, communications and public relations, strategic alliances, building an inclusive global user community and facilitating a collaborative standards development environment. He is a member of the Energistics Board of Directors and a member of the Standards Leadership Council.
Ross has over 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He has worked for Maersk Oil, Halliburton and Schlumberger among others. He has held numerous executive management positions including CEO, CIO and other technology leadership roles. He was most recently at Cognoscenti Consulting which works with private equity and venture capital companies. Ross has lived and worked in some 30 countries worldwide in numerous management assignments.
Ross attended Imperial College of Science and Technology in the United Kingdom where he received first class honors with a BSc (Eng).
Jana Schey – COO
As Chief Operating Officer for Energistics, Jana is responsible for strategic planning to define operational and adoption goals as well as delivery, managing execution of deliverables through appropriate staff and members, engagement with external standards organizations, and working with the CEO to ensure the continued financial viability of Energistics operations and Special Interest Groups.
Jana has over 15 years of oil and gas industry experience. She joined Energistics in 2008 to provide program planning and management for all Energistics standards initiatives. Previously, she worked with eProcurement standards (particularly the Petroleum Industry Data Exchange-PIDX) and catalog management. Jana also has experience in the telecommunications industry in the areas of HSE, corporate security and data exchange/systems integration and associated standards.
From 2004-2008, Jana volunteered with PIDX, serving as: Chair of the Business Process Work Group (4 years), member of the Catalogue and Classification Work Group (2 years), member of the Global Business Practices Team (1 year), Chair of the Standards & Guidelines Committee (2 years), and member of the PIDX Executive Team (2 years).
Jana holds a MA – History degree from the State University of New York – Brockport and a BA – History degree from Queen’s University, Ontario, Canada.
Jay Hollingsworth – CTO
Jay Hollingsworth is Chief Technology Officer for Energistics®. In this role, he is responsible for the technical adequacy of the standards stewarded by the organization, including WITSML™, PRODML™, and RESQML™ among others.
Jay has a BS plus post-graduate studies in Chemical Engineering at Tulane University in New Orleans. In addition, he attended graduate school in Computer Science at University of Texas in Dallas.
As his career advanced as an Environmental and Process Engineer, he focused on technical computing – first as a consultant and then for 20 years at Mobil Oil. At Mobil he was responsible for the data model of their FINDER global master data store and the suite of engineering applications in global use. After leaving ExxonMobil, he spent time in Landmark’s data modeling group before settling at Schlumberger. He spent 10 years at Schlumberger where he was responsible for the data modeling group and was the Portfolio manager for the Seabed database technology. After Schlumberger, he was an Industry Principal at Oracle®, focusing on oil & gas solutions.
Jay is active in numerous industry organizations, including APSG, ISO, SPE and SEG. He was a Technical Editor of the SPE Microcomputer Journal and is currently on the Board of the SPE Digital Energy Technical Section. He was a long-time member of the Board of Directors of PPDM™ and served as past president of APSG.
Peter Gonzalez – Senior Program Manager
Peter Gonzalez is Senior Program Manager for Energistics. In this role, he manages the planning and delivery of standards, as well as certification and software development activities as defined by the consortium members. Peter has worked for more than 25 years in drilling and completions, including field operations, application development, and executive positions.
Leveraging his experience, technical knowledge and business acumen, he also manages the applications and processes necessary to facilitate technical discussions, specification development and adoption initiatives for Energistics standards.
Peter holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas, Austin. In his 19-year career at Halliburton, he was an instructor, software application developer of real-time applications, key contributor to the development of automated equipment, global technical advisor and global product manager of a real-time data acquisition system. After leaving Halliburton, he joined Janus Consulting Partners (which focused on Big Data applications) to manage a team at Baker Hughes to perform data mining, discovery, analysis and predictive analytics on public, internal and external data sources of oil and gas data. He later joined Sourcewater, a startup from MIT developing a marketplace for water, as the Vice President of Engineering. As an entrepreneur and independent consultant, Peter’s focus has been on applying technology and process to improve business outcomes and help organizations gain value from their data.
Melissa Ray – Operations Manager
Melissa is currently Operations Manager for Energistics.
Melissa joined Energistics in 2006 to support office operations and accounting. She is an experienced administrative and office management professional with expertise in accounting, sales support and customer relations.
In addition to general administrative responsibilities including payables, invoicing and payroll, Melissa is responsible for planning and managing Energistics meetings worldwide, maintaining membership information and managing logistics for Energistics exhibits.
Melissa is on the National Data Repository (NDR) Planning Committee.
Philip Neri – Director of Marketing
Philip Neri is currently Marketing and Communications Manager for Energistics.
Philip brings over 30 years of geoscience, data management and marketing experience including 10 years at Paradigm and more recently 4 years at Ikon Science. His primary role is to communicate the Energistics brand to the stakeholder community and support the industry’s uptake of the Energistics collaboration standards.
His experience with both energy companies and software vendors, added to market research activities, allows him to communicate the value of data integration to a diverse audience. He is well aware of new trends in big data, machine learning and IoT, notably with his work with start-ups at the Houston Technology Center.
Philip holds a B.Sc. in Geology and an M.Sc. in Geophysics, has worked for oil majors Shell and Total, service companies Schlumberger and CGG, as well as in much smaller software technology companies in Europe and the USA, and start-ups in Machine Learning, marine acquisition technology and exhibit management; he is a member of SEG, EAGE and SPE.
Donna Marcotte – Documentation & Special Projects Manager
In her current role, Donna is responsible for the development (working with our technical team SMEs), delivery, and management of all technical documentation produced by Energistics. She also manages special projects, for example, ETP development.
For more than 30 years, Donna has delivered quality business and technical communication services and solutions, with a strong focus in the energy industry, particularly in upstream domains and related information technology.
She began her oil and gas industry career at ExxonMobil, where she worked for 6 years on a team that developed software for drilling engineers. Primarily she’s been an independent consultant, nationally and internationally, in a variety of roles and responsibilities, for clients that include operators, service companies, and software companies. She also had the great opportunity to work for Hart’s E&P magazine as the Drilling and IT editor.
Donna earned an MA in applied linguistics from the University of Houston and a BS in information science from the University of Pittsburgh.
Dave Wallis – Senior Advisor
Until April 2016 Dave was the Director – Eastern Hemisphere for OFS Portal. He has spent his 45 year career in the Oil & Gas industry. On behalf of OFS Portal’s membership,
Dave liaised with Oil Companies, eCommerce service providers, suppliers and standards bodies.
Dave was involved in OFS Portal before its inception as he was part of the 12 man multi-company team tasked with the conceptualisation, design and creation of OFS Portal. Dave served on the OFS Portal board from inception until April 2003.
Dave was also heavily involved in the Oil & Gas eCommerce standards body – PIDX from 2000 to 2013 as a part of the Executive team and chair of a variety of committees including marketing and classification.
Dave’s oil field experience with a small select group of Fortune 500 companies had been extensive in all major world oilfield arenas, such as with Weatherford. Dave was involved as a member of their Mergers & Acquisition team and then became Director of e-Commerce, undertaking both roles from their corporate office in Houston Texas.
Upon returning to the UK Dave’s interest in geology resurfaced and a four decade project (on the drawing board) was realised in 2014 as Dave created and funded the website www.londonpavementgeology.co.uk and App. He is now helping with Guided Pavement Geology Walks in central London.
Dave is on the board of a not-for-profit Association called Geoscience Wales Ltd. where he supports them with website, social media and marketing duties.
Laurence Ormerod – Independent Consultant
Laurence is the project manager and subject matter expert for PRODML. In this role, he works with Energistics SIG members to develop new data transfer capabilities from business use case definitions through to tested standards.
Laurence has been involved with PRODML since its inception, initially as a member company champion. He has almost 40 years of oilfield experience, working with major service companies including Schlumberger and Weatherford, and with technology specialists. He was CEO of EPS Ltd which developed reservoir and production engineering software including some of the first digital oilfield solutions. He now works as a consultant and as chairman of several oilfield technology companies. Laurence is a member of SPE and has authored several SPE papers. He is a graduate of Oxford University and of Heriot-Watt University, where he sits on the faculty advisory board.
